How Much Does it Cost to Build a Website in 2021

How much does it cost to make a website?

It's one of the first questions we get from people starting their own site. Before deciding on what tools you want, or how complex your project will be, take some time to determine two things:

1) How much is available for development in my budget and

2) What are the goals I have set for this business?

Once these parameters are established then go ahead and embark on building that new web presence! In today’s article though, let us talk about just ‘how many?'

If money were no object (though as they say “money talks"), allocating $10-15K would afford an enterprise-level dynamic system with custom modules such as content management systems connected internally

What does a web designer do?

Web designers are the people in charge of creating a company's website and making sure it is up-to-date with current trends. It can be an intense job, working on everything from coding to graphics design all while keeping up with web standards for accessibility.

Web Designers work hard at staying ahead of what’s popular online so their clients have some fresh content that will get them noticed by customers browsing around cyberspace looking for deals or services they need!

How much should you pay someone to design a website?

You know when you launch a company and it's got to have everything from the home page, all of your social media accounts, different pages for specific services and products…well not anymore! Web design is now about making things simple. For example, in just one day I can set up an entire website with basic content like contact information or pictures if needed that will look clean on mobile devices as well – because nowadays people do their shopping online too.
Web designers typically charge between $6-10k depending on what they're working with but even this cost has been reduced by half through new web editing technology where clients no longer need programming skills to build websites themselves which are designed for both desktop viewing as well as mobile browsing experience at a fraction

Hourly Rate

Reasonably skilled freelance web designers make about $75 per hour. This figure can vary though, according to CSS-Tricks.
Website Builder Expert estimates that the cost to design a website is $30 to $80 per hour and the cost to develop it is $100 to $180 per hour.
Freelancers typically make a higher rate than in-house web designers because they don’t receive health insurance and other perks that employees receive. Freelancers also have much less job security. They go from contract to contract. A higher rate compensates them for the lack of long-term commitment from clients.
A few factors determine whether a freelancer will charge more or less than $75 per hour:
  • Pet projects. A freelancer might offer a nonprofit, a friend, or a family a lower rate.
  • Project length. Long-term projects might deserve a slightly lower hourly rate.
  • Project difficulty. Will you need help from a programmer, developer, or graphic designer? Charge more. Is the project similar to another one you did? If you can copy and paste much of your past work, charge less (unless you don’t want to).
  • Page count. More pages to design mean more work. Extras like a blog or an e-commerce component can cost more, too.
  • Commitment level. If you can only put in a few hours of work here and there instead of committing to the project full time, consider lowering your price.
  • New or old client. Some web designers will charge a new clientless to land the project, though this might set a bad precedent.

Flat Rate

Clients love paying web designers flat rates because they know exactly how much they’ll pay upfront. Web design freelancers hate flat rates because you can never be 100 percent sure how long a project will take, especially if the client asks for endless changes, according to CSS-Tricks.

It’s a good idea to question the client extensively before providing prices to make sure you understand their budget and project requirements.

Here’s a basic web design price list:

  • Setup: $160
  • Design and building: $5,000
  • Content creation: $500
  • Client training: $600
  • Maintenance: 500
  • Total: $6,760

The average cost of the basic website created by a freelance website designer is $6,760, according to a Website Builder Expert. This cost only covers the first year.

That said, each cost can vary. Setup can cost as little as $50 and go as high as $200, depending on the website domain cost and other factors. A custom website design will cost $5,000 at a minimum and can go upwards of $10,000.

Content creation varies from $500 to $5,000 depending on how much content the client wants. And the annual cost of website maintenance costs about $500 to $1,000.
